Fancy Pants: Berkeley – March 3rd! (note corrected date)

Save the date, and (to those of you for whom I have an address) watch your mailbox for your invite!

We’ll meet at 10 am at Margaret O’Leary.

At 11 am we’ll head over to Molly B.

At noon, we’re on our own for lunch – bring your own, or try one of the numerous restaurants, diners or delis in the neighborhood.

1 pm and it’s over to Sola Lucy for consignment treasures!  Yay!

At 2 pm it’s up to College Ave where we’ll dig into dresses at Krasa.

If one needs a break from all the clothes, there’s a Peet’s in the neighborhood (though the lines are super long!).  More interesting to the cooks in the bunch is Sur La Table, which has nice stock and holds really good periodic sales.

There are some great stationers in the area as well.  My favorite was Castle in the Air, which has a varied stock of items I found most tempting:  little leather-bound notebooks, sealing wax and pretty seals, beautiful pens, papier-mache masks ready to be adorned with one’s creative energy.

Green thumbs may enjoy The Gardener, with an abundance of ephemera and some high quality gardening tools.  These are not your get-it-at-Walmart-for-a-buck tools which will break after half a season; these are quality hand-forged tools crafted to last a lifetime.   Seriously good stuff.

Lots more shops in the area; check them out here.

Looks like you all are going to have a great day out! Can’t believe I was in Claremont last summer and had no idea there were all these cool places only 3 miles away. Better for my pocketbook, though : – >

Like you were saying in your post yesterday, there are places best discovered on foot. I think Fourth Street in Berkeley is one of those places. While it’s necessary for me to do some driving to get to the area, it’s most fun to park and walk, walk and walk around the neighborhood. All sorts of charming little surprises!
